The “Leaders for Peace” international campaign on Peace, Youth and Human Rights promoted by

ITALIAN PM CONTE IN RONDINE TO SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN
“I confirm our support to the Leaders for Peace campaign, and I offer you this small gesture,
In December 2018, seventy years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rightsand a century after the end of the First World War, Rondine’s students and alumnilaunched an Appeal to the entire world to take a first step towards decisive, positive shift concerning human rights at the global level.
With the “Leaders for Peace” campaign, Rondine asks each of the 193 MemberStates to devote a symbolic sum from its defense budget to the training of as manyyoung, global peace leaders. These new leaders will be able to intervene in the world’s most complex conflict scenarios, promoting the development of pacifiedsocial and political relations.
Rondine also asks each UN Member State to consider including education onhuman rights in national education systems, integrating it with the Rondine Method for the creative transformation of conflicts.
The objective is the gradual extinction of war contexts from the world through the affirmation of a new culture capable of unmasking the false concept of enemy, and of spreading among all citizens the skills to positively transform conflicts by integratingthe teaching of the Rondine Method with human rights.
Invited by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Representative to the United Nations, Rondine launched the campaign and the Appeal in an international event held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on December 10th, 2018.
One year later, on December 5th, 2019, Rondine’s students came back to the UN to demonstrate that what initially appeared as a wishful dream was instead becomingreality. During its first year, the campaign received the endorsement of the Presidentof Italy Mattarella and of His Holiness Pope Francis, moreover, the Italian Prime Minister officially signed the Appeal and the 2019 UN event has been co-sponsoredby the delegations of Armenia, Jordan, the European Union, by the Office of the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, and with the participation of Sierra Leone.
We hope that many other States and institutions will join the campaign soon: help usin promoting the campaign and the Appeal in the world.
Rondine Cittadella della Pace is an organization committed to reducing armed conflicts around the world and spreading its own method for the creative transformation of conflicts in every context.
Its objective is contributing to a planet free from armed clashes, in which every person has the tools to manage conflicts in a creative and positive way.
The Studentato Internazionale – World House is a project that gives rise and continuous inspiration to Rondine. It welcomes young people coming from countries affected by armed conflict or post-conflict situations, helping them to discover the human being in their enemy, through the difficult and impressive commitment to live together. With its training courses, Rondine encourages them to become leaders of themselves, their communities, and agents of change in a global and civil society, looking for the common good.

I arrived at Rondine at the age of 19 with the intention of becoming a web designer. However, at The Citadel of Peace I had the opportunity to encounter representatives from various institutions, diplomacy, and civil society. I understood that I could, and should, become a leader to provide a concrete response to my country’s profound and urgent need. After returning home, I held an important institutional role as an Abkhazian representative to the International Geneva Discussions (GID) for peace negotiations Southern Caucasus conflict of 2008. In some places, even one person makes the difference!

I was born in 1988, when the Armenian land was destroyed by a terrible earthquake. Over the years I have learned to accept events that I cannot change, intervening courageously instead where I can make a difference. This is also thanks to Rondine. I have contributed to innovative projects of dialogue between the people of Southern Caucasus. Since 2012, I have been the Director of Development for the Image Center for the Transformation of Conflict, an independent and apolitical organization born in 2007 that promotes the positive transformation of relationships and the creation of foundations for lasting and sustainable peace in societies that have overcome conflicts. In the spring of 2018, I was protesting in the Yeveran square alongside the protagonists of my country’s political change towards greater democracy: today I’m a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
Young people are not only the future, they are also the present: if you offer young people the opportunity to take part in the formation of their future, they can be at the forefront of peacebuilding.

I grew up in a war that has lasted for decades. Thanks to the training course at Rondine, I became a social worker and trainer in the field of conflict mediation and transformation, even in critical areas. In 2014, I co-founded The Other Way, a training and consulting center on conflict management, intercultural communication, creativity, and innovation. Since 2015, I have had the extraordinary opportunity to transmit the experience and tools acquired to new generations, dedicating myself to the training and education of young people from all regions of Italy. I dedicate myself to this goal specifically through one of Rondine's innovative projects, the Quarto Anno Liceale d’Eccellenza, which allows young people to transform their conflicts into meaningful life projects.

Since the time I was a child, I had a dream: to positively affect the lives of others. At Rondine, I learned how to make it happen. Today I am vice president of the Rondine International Peace Lab (IPL) the association for former Rondine students. I contributed to the first popular diplomatic IPL project, Initiative for Democratic and Peaceful Elections in Sierra Leone, in which I successfully applied the Rondine Method at a political event, the presidential elections, in a post-civil war situation, in places ranging from the most remote villages to urban contexts. In my country of origin, I collaborated with the Unicef project in Kosovo, contributed to the foundation of the Econ Institute project in Pristina, and worked for the Ministry of Trade and Industry as head of the General Secretariat’s office.

Every day at Rondine, elements of conflict are transformed into opportunities for meeting and living together. “ Alex Zanardi“Rondine is an extraordinary human and spiritual experience, which has opened my heart. It is born from the curiosity and the desire to know, which are the engines that drives us forward. We must free ourselves from the obligation to be afraid. “ Brunello Cucinelli

The work that was born at Rondine, a network of friendship and communication, is particularly important because it represents a safe deposit of peace, at the base of the Mediterranean globalization affair. “ Andrea Riccardi“Violence always occupies the front pages of newspapers, but we should focus on the stories of hope that come from associations like Rondine and I hope its young people will become the new generation of leaders in their own countries, helping to resolve conflicts effectively. “ Noa
- “Respecting other people’s cultures and traditions is essential for overcoming conflicts: diversity is wealth for humankind and future salvation for the planet. Rondine is cultivating this and I hope that the fruit of its work will expand all over the world. “ Vandana Shiva“Creativity is fundamental to building peace. Conflict is the salt of existence and, without violence, it is something good that every individual should learn to develop. But to do this we must use creativity. We should therefore learn to value young people and their ability to develop greater imaginations. Rondine is a fine example of creativity, confrontation, and dialogue. It is a place without violence.” Johan Galtung
- “Today we express anger through violence. My grandfather taught me how to channel it into positive action. Peace depends on us, on each of us, and in how much we believe in it. Here at Rondine we believe. “ Arun Gandhi
